In this article, I will go over how to change your email on LinkedIn and other features like changing a primary email on your account. LinkedIn has plenty of features on the platform, like “Two-step verification” and allowing users to see what devices their accounts are logged into from the settings.
Below, there will be an explanation of how you can change your email, set up login verification using your phone number or an authenticator app, and other helpful features on the platform. Let’s start by changing your email on the website and mobile device.
Change your Email on LinkedIn

Listed below are the steps for changing your email on the desktop version of LinkedIn. To start, make sure you know your login information to access your account. In a later section, I will go over how to add an extra layer of security to your account.
- Log in to your account on LinkedIn’s website
- Click “Me” in the top right corner
- Select “Settings & Privacy” on the menu
- On the left side, click “Sign in & security”
- Select “Email addresses” to add a new email
After adding a new email, you can change it to your primary email by following the instructions in a later section. Once the new email is changed to your primary, you can remove the old one.
Mobile App

On LinkedIn’s app, tap your profile photo in the top left corner and select “Settings” at the bottom of the menu. You can change various features like notifications and login information in the LinkedIn settings. Press “Sign in & security” on the list and tap “Email addresses” at the top.
After going to the email address settings, you can see which emails are attached to your LinkedIn, and you can add a new one. You can also remove or change your primary email address from the mobile app.
Can you Add Multiple Emails to LinkedIn?
The answer is yes; you can add multiple emails to your LinkedIn account in the settings. If you want to add a new email, click “Add email address” at the bottom of the page. You will have to input your new email and your current LinkedIn password to add the email.
After you click the blue “Submit” button at the bottom, you will have to log into your inbox for your email address to verify the email. You should receive a verification email from LinkedIn, and you will have to click a link and sign in to your account.
Side note: Make sure the email verification is coming from LinkedIn. If you have yet to receive an email, you could request LinkedIn to send another by going back to the website.
When you verify your new email, you will see a list of your emails in the settings. In the next section, I will explain how you can change your primary email address.
Change your Primary Email on LinkedIn
When you go to your email address settings on LinkedIn, you should see a list of your emails split into two categories. One is labeled “Primary email,” and the other is labeled “Secondary email.”
If you want to add a new primary email, you will have to add a new email address to your account by following the above instructions. You can do this quickly if you have multiple emails attached to your account and want to change them.
Select “Make primary” on the right of the secondary email address you want to change to primary. You will be prompted to enter your LinkedIn password to confirm the change, and then you can click “Make primary” at the bottom.
Removing an email from LinkedIn is a quick process and can be done on your phone or computer. Go to your email addresses on LinkedIn, and next to the one you want to delete, select “Remove.” Similar to changing an email address to primary, you will have to enter your password to confirm the change.
After you remove the email address, you should see it disappear from the list on LinkedIn. You have the option to add another email if you follow the instructions above.
Add your Phone Number to LinkedIn
There are plenty of uses for adding your phone number to your LinkedIn account, which LinkedIn explains in the settings. You can add your phone number by going to “Sign in & security” in the settings. On the “Account access” list, select “Phone numbers” and click “Add phone number” at the bottom.
To add a phone number, you will have to input your phone number, location, and LinkedIn password. Linkedin will then send a code.
See Devices you’re Logged Into on LinkedIn
If you log into your LinkedIn account on multiple devices, you can see them inside the settings on the platform. Go to “Sign in & security” and select “Where you’re signed in” on the menu.
At the top of the page, you should see a section labeled “Active sessions.” This page will show details about the session and the approximate location. You can go through the list and end specific sessions. You should see two sessions if you are logged into LinkedIn on your phone and computer.
If you want to end a session on a device, you can click “end” next to the session.
Add Two-step Verification
To add another layer of security besides your password, you can also enable the “Two-step verification” feature in the settings. Go to “Sign in & security” and click “Two-step verification” at the bottom.
As explained on the website, you can use your phone or an authenticator app to enable the verification. LinkedIn will log you out of other devices when setting this up, so remember your login info.
Click “Set up” at the bottom and choose between your number or an authenticator app. I went with the phone number option, so I had to enter my phone number and LinkedIn password to receive a code. Read all the necessary LinkedIn info while setting up the verification.
After typing in the code, the two-step authentication will be enabled on your account. To disable this setting, you can click the toggle in the top right. You can also change the verification method by clicking “Change verification method” at the bottom.
Conclusion
LinkedIn is a great platform for connecting and building your network with other individuals. It is important to update your information, like your email address, phone number, and account security.
The sections above can help you change your login email, your phone number and add an extra authentication step for logging in to your account.
